The Steps To Be Followed:
1. Set up your “working” area – Find a place in your residence where you can lay down your wedding dress. Your dining table is a suitable candidate for this kind of job as well as your bed. Just make sure that your gown will not be laid on the floor as it might catch more mess and make your cleaning more of hassle on your part.
2. Carefully examine your bridal gown – Try to check what fabric was used in making your gown as there are different ways to clean a gown depending on the clothing material it was made. Sexy wedding dresses and simple wedding dresses are usually made of light fabrics such as silk and satin while ball gown wedding dresses and other dress which are sophisticatedly designed includes other textiles such as lace, polyester, and net fabrics. So it is best to figure out the fabrics used in order to get the right cleaning materials for your dress.
3. Perform the cleaning process – Get a cotton towel and dip it in lukewarm water. Gently blot out the stained areas of you dress using the wet towel and wipe of the excess moisture. Just leave it for a few minutes until the stain is moistened again. Then get another cotton towel and use it to wipe of the blotted stain starting from the outside then slowly moving your way to the inside. Continue doing this process until the stain is gone. This method is good for most fabrics used in wedding gowns.
On the other hand, cleaning of gowns with polyester fabrics requires a different procedure as you will need to use oxygen based cleaning solutions to finish the job for you. Mix a scoop of this cleaning solution on a bottle of water and spray it on the dirtied area of the gown. Leave it for a few minutes then rinse it with warm water.
For silk fabric dresses, you will need a dry cleaning agent to help you get rid of the stain like Dryel. Rub Dryel on the soiled area and leave it to dry once the stain is removed. Make sure to place an absorbent cloth underneath the stained area.
4. Dry your dress completely – Make sure that the dress is entirely dry with no trace of moisture on any parts of the gown to prevent it from yellowing. Once everything is set, you can place back your wedding dress into the box and place it in your closet for safekeeping.
